12th IEEE International Conference on Advanced Video and Signal based Surveillance
Karlsruhe, Germany — August 25–28, 2015
The IEEE AVSS conference has long served as a premier annual gathering for researchers, industry professionals, and government representatives working at the forefront of video-based surveillance and advanced signal processing. Each edition brings together experts from around the world to share cutting-edge theories, methods, and practical applications in fields such as activity recognition, vehicle tracking, border security, and biometrics. Attendees benefit from a rich program of keynote lectures, paper presentations, workshops, and industrial tracks that foster meaningful collaboration. The conference environment encourages lively discussions and knowledge exchange, helping to advance the state of the art in surveillance technology while addressing real-world challenges in public safety and security.
The conference program is carefully structured to offer something for every participant, from established researchers to newcomers in the field. Paper submissions undergo a rigorous review process to ensure only the highest quality contributions are presented. In addition to the main technical sessions, specialized workshops provide focused opportunities to explore emerging topics such as advanced video analytics, multi-sensor fusion, and intelligent transportation systems. Attendees can also engage with live demonstrations that showcase the latest innovations in surveillance hardware and software. This comprehensive approach ensures that the conference remains a vital platform for disseminating new ideas and fostering interdisciplinary dialogue across the global surveillance research community.
Beyond the technical program, the conference offers a rich social and cultural experience that allows attendees to connect in a more informal setting. Social events such as conference dinners and sightseeing tours provide opportunities for networking and building lasting professional relationships. The venue itself is carefully chosen to reflect the host region's character, offering participants a chance to explore local history and landmarks. These elements contribute to a welcoming atmosphere where collaboration can flourish naturally. Many attendees find that the connections made during coffee breaks and social gatherings are just as valuable as the formal presentations, leading to future joint projects and long-term partnerships across institutions and national borders.
The conference organization relies on the dedicated efforts of a large committee of volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure a seamless experience for all participants. From the initial call for papers to the final day of presentations, every aspect is coordinated with attention to detail and a commitment to excellence. The committee oversees paper selection, workshop planning, keynote invitations, and logistical arrangements such as registration and accommodation. This collective effort draws on the expertise of professionals from academia and industry who share a passion for advancing surveillance science. Their work behind the scenes is essential to maintaining the high standards that the IEEE AVSS conference has upheld throughout its history.
Looking ahead, the field of video surveillance continues to evolve rapidly, driven by advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and sensor technologies. The IEEE AVSS conference remains at the center of these developments, providing a forward-looking forum where emerging trends are identified and debated. Topics such as privacy-preserving surveillance, real-time analytics, and cross-domain activity recognition are gaining increasing attention. The conference community is committed to addressing both the technical and ethical dimensions of surveillance systems, ensuring that innovation proceeds responsibly. As new challenges and opportunities arise, the conference will continue to serve as an essential meeting point for those shaping the future of security and monitoring technologies worldwide.
